Hello parents! My name is Coach Nathan Fudala. I launched Backyard Rule in 2015 with the mission to build teamwork and spread sportsmanship through hosting one-of-a-kind tournaments, fundraisers, and special events.

We encourage fair play, hustle, and a “get up” attitude. Too many kids are driven away from Baseball/Softball because of high pressure, win-at-all-cost coaching styles. Yes, Backyard Rule teaches fundamental skills that can lead to success, but our primary focus is developing attitude, pushing through failure, and having FUN! Did you fall down? Get up! Are you arguing over a close call? Settle it and keep playing!

Me bragging about my Baseball history (feel free to skip over): In 2008 I made the move from Cincinnati, OH to St. Augustine, FL to play Baseball at Flagler College. I was quickly humbled my freshman year, having gone from being a high school all star to sitting the bench 58 out of 60 games in college Baseball. Talk about a punch to the gut… Next season I worked my way into the lineup for about half the games, and then managed to become a lineup staple by Jr/Sr year. I never have been a big stat guy, but I am proud to say I was Flagler’s first Baseball player to be named “First Team All Peachbelt Conference” as a utility player (a utility player is someone who plays multiple defensive positions).

My playing career ends right there, I never went pro. Bummer right? Not at all! The chance to play ball in Florida opened so many doors and blossomed into an amazing life. Although my playing days are over I still get to be a part of the game, now by sharing what knowledge I have with the next generation of ballplayers. Who knew that throwing, catching, and hitting a ball could add up to so much? I am so thankful for my coaches, family, and many friends I have made through the Baseball community.
