Meet Coach Nate!

Hello parents! My name is Coach Nathan Fudala. We launched Backyard Rule in 2015 with the mission to build teamwork and spread sportsmanship, through hosting one-of-a-kind tournaments, fundraisers, and special events.

I encourage fair play, hustle, and a “get up” attitude. I believe too many kids are driven away from Baseball/Softball because of high pressure, win-at-all-cost coaching styles. Yes, Backyard Rule teaches the fundamental skills that can lead to success. We also invest heavily in attitude, mature reactions to failure, and having FUN! Fall down, get up, settle it, and keep playing!

Me bragging about my Baseball history (feel free to skip over): In 2008 I made the move from Cincinnati, OH to St. Augustine, FL to play Baseball at Flagler College. I was quickly humbled my freshman year, having gone from being a high school all star to sitting the bench 58 out of 60 games in college Baseball. I considered quiting, but chose to stick it out. As a versatile sophomore I worked my way into the lineup for about half the games, and then managed to become a lineup staple. I never have been a big stat guy, but I am proud to say I was Flaglers first Baseball player to be named “First Team All Peachbelt” as a utility player.

My playing career ends right there, I never went pro. Bummer right? Not at all! The game of Baseball has been very good to me. While playing you are too naive to to recognize it, but the experience opens so many doors, connections, and opportunities. The chance to play ball in Florida was a tiny seed that has flourished to nurture an amazing life. Who knew that throwing, catching, and hitting a ball could add up to so much? I am so thankful for my coaches, family, and friends.

If the game has helped me, it can help others. As a “has-been” I have turned my focus to sharing knowledge with others incase they too fall in love with the game.
