Greetings parents! My name is Nathan Fudala and I am very excited to offer you the second year of our Backyard Rule After School Program! Class runs for 1.5 hours, is open to boys and girls ages 5 - 12, and is hosted on the school premises.

Our objective is to teach fundamental Baseball/Softball skills in a safe, fun, and inclusive atmosphere. The “catch” is that instead of using hard Baseball/Softball bats and balls, we use plastic Wiffle bats and balls. These soft playing materials increase safety so that attendees can fearlessly learn proper fielding, hitting, and throwing techniques. No need for students to bring any gloves or equipment, as we provide everything! Whether you are a seasoned ballplayer or new to the game, the experience is challenging, engaging, and most of all, FUN!

You have 3 options for registration:

Semester (16 weeks) = $450

Quarter (8 weeks) = $250

Individual day = $35

Please note that our program runs for 1.5 hours, which is 30 minutes longer than most programs. If you break it down hourly, a semester registration comes out to just $18.75/hour, a quarter registration comes out to $20.83/hour, and an individual day registration is $23.33/hour. If any quarters fall short of 8 weeks, you will be offered entrance to a future class of your choice, or receive a prorated refund. If any quarters are greater than 8 weeks, you will have a prorated option to sign up based off your original registrations daily rate. All sales are final and refunds are not offered for absences. Class size is limited to 16 students to ensure a quality experience.

If you’d please allow me the opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Coach Nate Fudala. In 2008 I left my hometown of Cincinnati, OH for the incredible opportunity to play Baseball at Flagler College. After graduation I remained in the game by teaching and coaching.

Backyard Rule was started up in 2015. We are a “pop-up” sports event service based in St. Augustine, FL and are forever in pursuit of building teamwork and spreading sportsmanship.

The Backyard Rule after school program began with SJCSD in the 2023-24 school year. Our program strives to develop (or further develop) hand eye coordination, footwork, and knowledge of the game. We do our best to create a competitive atmosphere that is an enriching experience for all skill levels.

I do not believe in everyone gets a trophy. Accepting a tough loss is something we all continually battle. We can, however control our effort and attitude which, no doubt impacts the likelihood of victory. Thinking back to my playing days, I was at my best when I was simply having fun. I was at my worst when the fear of failure and the weight of expectations extinguished my love for the game.

It is this lesson that I hope to share with each of our students. Have fun! You are so lucky to be here, you love to play, and a loss will not change that.

Thank you so much for reading and considering our program. If you have any questions please feel free to email me anytime:

Testimonials

The Backyard Rule after school program is awesome! My son had the best time, it was great for him to be outside and active, and Nate, the founder of Backyard Rule is so good with the kids! We can’t wait to do it again as well as attend a summer camp or Diamond Dropoff. Thanks Nate! You rock!
Wanted to let you know my daughter Th***n is having a great time and learning so much. This might have been the best camp for her. She is going to try softball this year and I have her signed up for softball night camp in July. Your camp was the perfect start for her. Just wanted to say thank you and your camp is amazing!
Nate Fudala and Backyard Rule is second to none. Nate has been handling our Bat4Ben Fundraiser for the last six years, and he makes it so easy. If you have ever planned a fundraising event on your own, you know what a huge undertaking it is. Nate takes it all off of your hands, and you literally just show up. Extremely professional, organized, and seamless, and the players look forward to coming back year after year. It’s a top-notch event and fun for all!
My 9 year old had so much fun learning wiffleball with Nate! The class was well organized and Nate is very easy to communicate with. We’ll definitely sign up again!
This is our third year participating in this camp (I think) and I love everything about it. My kid has come back from camp excited for the old friends, but talking about the new friends he met. I love that they have different group, play “old school” games and he comes home excited to play those games with his brothers! His papa has even put in a kickball field and we all kicked off summer with it. This camp builds skills that will last them a lifetime and crosses to multiple sports. I love that he is learning healthy habits in a fun way!
We have used Backyard Rule for 3 years in a row for Hobe Sound Lightning travel baseball. Our annual Backyard Rule Wiffle Ball tournament is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Tons of people in our community come out to play and it has become one of our favorite days of the year. Nate makes organizing teams and brackets so easy and stress free. He sets up all of the fields and makes sure the games are running smoothly and fairly. The team names and costumes are one of the best parts, once you get it going it will become an awesome annual event!

This event is hosted by Backyard Rule, LLC. For additional information on participating or to see how you can host your own special event please email:
