Congratulations to Brian Hudgins and his team “Spicy Ice” on their ChampionCHIP at our 2023 PAL 9u Warriors fundraiser on Saturday, March 11 in St. Augustine, FL! They defeated “Drive Fitness” in a 3-inning showdown with a final score of 2-0.
It was a beautiful 70-degree Saturday morning in St. Augustine, FL for our 11-team fundraiser. It was a good day to hit, with 10 mph gusts of wind blowing out to right-center field. We ran our usual format with round robin, then a single elimination playoff. The top team from each field moved on to playoffs, which left us with 3 teams. We took all of the second-place teams to participate in a “wild card pitch-off” to get a 4th playoff team. The three who moved on as the one seed from their field were: Spicy Ice, Local Legends Cleaning Company, and Drive Fitness. The 4th team who won the wild card was Island Warriors.
After a quick playoff we were left with the top two teams, Drive Fitness vs. Spicy Ice. Thanks to a clutch 2 run homer and also a defensive rob of what would have been a 3 run homer for Drive Fitness, Spicy Ice took the dub, winning 2-0.
