The primary purpose of the Ben Johnson Memorial Fund is to provide scholarships to local students. Our first two scholarships were presented in 2018 along with the Ben Johnson Memorial Trophy. The 2018 recipients were Jack Surgeoner (Football) and Drew Wilkerson (Baseball). Each year we plan to recognize a football and baseball player who display qualities most like Ben…good character, heart and loyalty.
We are so thankful for the love and support shown by everyone that knew and loved Ben, and even those that didn't. Through this organization and the efforts of our community here in Fleming Island we will keep Ben’s memory alive by giving back to others in Ben’s honor.
Tournament details: Teams are guaranteed a three game minimum (3 inning games) or nine innings total. We start out with round robin play, and those who advance participate in a single elimination playoff. Tournaments/brackets usually last about 3 hours. We provide all bats and balls needed for gameplay. Teams are encouraged to bring chairs, a tent and a cooler. Molded cleats are ok but no metal cleats.
Rules: Basically, we are playing miniature Baseball. Only 4 players are allowed on defense (including the pitcher). Hitters do run the bases and fielders can throw grounders to the pitcher for the force play at 1B. Pitch speed is limited to medium/slow (28 mph speed limit). Also, we play pegs so LOOK OUT runners! For a more in-depth description of the rules please see our video rulebook below.

What should we bring?
The only think you NEED to bring is a team of 4 - 5 ballplayers. We provide all bats, balls and equipment. It is good idea for teams/players bring their own chairs, cooler and a tent. You are welcome to bring your own bat if you want, but it must be an official Wiffle bat (skinny yellow), and there can be no modifications to the bat other than grip tape. Molded cleats are ok, but no metal. Most people wear gym shoes.
Do we need to wear uniforms?
No, but they sure do look good. Players can dress as casually or as done up as they please.
